If you’re trying to buy a car, get approved for a home, or even qualify for better credit cards — your credit score matters more than you think.
And here’s the truth…
Most people are accidentally destroying their credit score without even realizing it
If your score is low (or just not where you want it), don’t stress—I’ve been there.
I was able to build my credit score to nearly perfect, and in this post, I’m breaking down exactly what works (no fluff, no complicated strategies).
Let’s fix your credit — fast.

5 WAYS TO BOOST YOUR CREDIT SCORE FAST
Building credit can take time—but improving it doesn’t have to take forever if you focus on the right things.
Here are the moves that actually make a difference:
1. PAY YOUR BILLS ON TIME (NON-NEGOTIABLE)
If you only do ONE thing from this list—make it this.
Your payment history is the #1 factor in your credit score.
Late payments = instant damage.
Set up autopay. Set reminders. Do whatever you need to do.
Just don’t miss payments. Ever.
You never want to pay even $1 late or a day late, so always pay your Bills that report to the credit bureau ON TIME.
2. DON”T CLOSE OLD CARDS
This is a mistake a lot of people make.
You think you’re being responsible by closing old accounts—but you’re actually hurting your credit.
Older accounts = longer credit history = higher score.
Even if you don’t use the card:
- Keep it open
- Use it once in a while
- Keep the history alive
You want to build credit history, so it’s important you never close your old cards.
If you are paying money yearly to keep the account, call the company and see if it’s possible to waive the fee for being a long time customer.
If they offer to move the account to a free account, make sure it doesn’t impact your initial account open date. Its important to keep the account length
3. HAVE A MIX OF CREDIT
Lenders like to see that you can handle different types of credit.
If you only have credit cards, that’s fine—but over time, adding variety helps.
Examples:
- Credit cards
- Auto loans
- Student loans
- Mortgages
You don’t need everything—but a mix helps. A mix of different types of credit will help to boost your credit score.
4. STOP APPLYING FOR RANDOM CARDS
That “save 20% today” offer at checkout? Yeah… It’s not worth it.
Every time you apply for credit, it can lower your score temporarily.
Instead:
- Research cards BEFORE applying
- Choose ones that actually benefit you
- Avoid impulse decisions
Be strategic—not reactive.
When you are shopping at a store, and they ask you if you would like to open a credit card to save money, SAY NO!
Never open up a card at a store without doing any prior research. There are likely better accounts out there that will give you more long-term.
5 – LOWER YOUR CREDIT UTILIZATION
This is one of the fastest ways to boost your score.
Your utilization = how much of your credit you’re using.
Example:
- Limit: $1,000
- Balance: $800
→ That’s 80% (too high)
You want to stay:
- Under 30% (good)
- Under 10% (best)
Lower balance = higher score. It’s that simple.
Just because you are approved for a high-limit credit card doesn’t mean you should use it!
You should NEVER max out a credit card or even come close to it. NEVER!
You need to understand your own finances and understand what you can truly afford.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Your credit score isn’t random—it’s predictable.
If you follow these steps consistently, your score will improve.
No shortcuts. No hacks. Just smart habits.
Start today, stay consistent, and watch your score climb.
