Kohl’s is a department store that seems to be everywhere (or at least everywhere near me). There are two within 20 minutes of my house and another one 10 minutes from my work.
After buying my house, I became a huge fan of their home items. Kohl’s constantly has sales and coupons. I won’t buy anything unless I have a 30% coupon. A few times a year they do email me a 40% off coupon, which I usually take advantage of as well. They also give out Kohl’s cash, which I consider is the same thing as cash. They usually give you $5-$10 Kohl’s cash for every $50. So I have learned to always shop the sales with a coupon, and never pay full price for anything.
A few years ago, Kohl’s use to let you use Kohl’s cash after it expired. It didn’t matter when it expired, they would still take it. Eventually they changed their policy and they said you have to use it by the time it expired. There was no exceptions. Until recently I learned this policy has changed….
A few months ago I was at the Kohl’s customer service counter doing an exchange. I was looking through my wallet for my Kohl’s cash and the first one I found was expired. I pulled it out and put it on the counter but kept looking for the one that I knew was still valid. Once I found it, I handed it to the cashier. He then asked me for the one I put on the counter so he could scan it. I told him it was expired. He said sometimes they will still take it. I couldn’t believe those words were coming out of his mouth. They would actually take EXPIRED KOHL’s CASH?!! SINCE WHEN?!
So I handed him the Kohl’s cash and he scanned it and sure enough it worked! I asked him how long after it expires they would take it and he said he wasn’t sure. He radioed his manager who ended up being near by and came over. The manager told me that they will take Kohl’s cash up until 10 days after it expires!
This was a game changer for me. Sometimes when I get Kohl’s cash, you have to use it the following week. With my busy schedule, I couldn’t always make it in to shop and sometimes I forgot to shop online. Now that you have an additional 10 days to use it, it will be much easier to use.
Now this was a few months ago when I heard they still accepted them. They only accept them in store as long as you physically have the Kohl’s Cash (if you save it to you Kohl’s wallet, they will disappear after it expires so save those coupons!) They can change this policy at anytime but next time you are in your local Kohl’s, ask the cashier. If they are not sure, ask them to ask the manager. I’m not sure if this works at all stores but it works at all 3 stores near me.
**I was recently in Kohl’s (June 2, 2018) and I confirmed with the cashier that they still accept them up until 10 days after they expire**
