5 CRICUT TIPS FOR BEGINNERS
These 5 Cricut Tips for beginners are going to help all new beginners from making some big mistakes we all see new Cricut Crafters make.
TIP #1 – YOU DON’T NEED TO PAY FOR CRICUT DESIGN SPACE
My first Cricut Tip for beginners is that Cricut Design Space is free to use.
That’s right – FREE!
Sometimes it can get confusing because Cricut will try to get you to sign up for a free trial of Cricut Access, which will lead to a monthly payment when the free trial ends.
Cricut sometimes makes it look like you have to sign up for Cricut Access to use Cricut Design Space every time you log into Cricut Design Space.
But like I said above, you don’t need Cricut Access Subscription to use Cricut Design Space.
While yes there are some nice incentives with using Cricut Access such as access to more Cricut Fonts and Cricut Files, but you don’t need the extras (unless of course, you want them).
With Design Space, you still have access to some fonts and designs. You can also upload your own Cricut Fonts and upload your own SVG files to use with Cricut Design Space.
So remember this Cricut Tip For Beginners: Cricut Design Space is free to use.
TIP #2: YOU DON’T HAVE TO USE CRICUT BRAND PRODUCTS
Cricut makes a lot of different products that you can use with your Machine. While many of these products are great, you don’t have to use Cricut Brand Products.
Cricut Brand Products can be on the pricey side. While some of the Cricut Products are worth the price, you can find other brands that work the same or even better.
Some other products you can use with your Cricut:
- Transfer Tape
- Oracle Vinyl – permanent and removable vinyl
- Siser Vinyl
- Crayola Markers
- Weeding Tool
Definitely explore and try different brands for different items. Practicing with different brands will help you to figure out which brands work best for you.
TIP #3 YOU CAN CLEAN YOUR CRICUT MAT
Yes, that’s right, you can clean your Cricut Mat!
If your Cricut Mat is getting dirty and collecting dust, dirt, dog hair, or product scraps, you can easily clean your Cricut Mats.
So stop throwing them away, and learn how to keep them to prolong their life.
There are a couple of different ways to clean your Cricut mat, but my favorite is using soap and water. You can learn more about Cleaning Cricut Mats here.
TIP #4: DO A TEST CUT
It’s so important to do a test cut before you start creating your project.
Materials are expensive and if you don’t have a lot of it, you want to make sure you don’t waste it.
Doing a test cut will help you to make sure you are cutting with the right Cricut Cutting settings.
If it doesn’t cut correctly, you can adjust the settings until you get it right.
When I do a test cut, I usually cut a small shape in the corner of the canvas just to make sure everything cuts as expected. It doesn’t waste much product and it ensures I have the right settings to cut the full project/
I’ve been using my Cricut for years, and I still do test cuts anytime I use a new type of material or if I haven’t used the material in a long time.
TIP #5: BE PATIENT
When you are first starting out with using your Cricut, one of the best Cricut tips for beginners is to be patient.
Learning something new doesn’t always come easy for everyone. So it’s important to remember that while you learn how to use Cricut, be patient.
You will make mistakes.
You will get frustrated.
These emotions come with learning something new.
So do some research and learn how to use your Cricut. Practice.
Be patient. In the end, this will save you so much time and effort if you take the time to learn.
And it’s okay if you don’t get it at first. Just keep practicing and researching to increase your Cricut Skill level.
There is so much you can do with a Cricut so start small and gradually move to more complicated projects so you don’t get overwhelmed or over your head.
