Want to know the best Cricut Supplies for Beginners? I’ll tell you exactly which beginner Cricut tools you need.
Did you recently receive a new Cricut Machine or plan to buy one soon? You might be wondering what other Cricut Acessories you will need as a beginner to get started with making all the cool things!
When you make the leap into the Cricut World, you need to know what projects you want to do. And maybe in the beginning you don’t know. And that is completely ok.
I’ve done many (and I mean m-a-n-y) projects with my Cricut Explorer Air 2 over the last 5 years that I know which Cricut accessories are must-haves!
I’ve made so many different projects, and some of them, I know I’ll never *want* to make again. And there are some, that is all I want to make!
That is the beauty of the Cricut machines, the projects are endless!
So regardless of which projects you want to make and which Cricut Machine you have, there are a couple of beginner Cricut Supplies you’ll need to get started on your Cricut Journey!

WHAT COMES IN THE CRICUT BOX
For the most part, all the Cricuts come with the same or similar items.
So it doesn’t matter if you have a Cricut Maker 3 or Cricut Air 3, they all come with at least the cords, a premium fine point blade, and a 12×12 mat.
These are common out-of-the-box Cricut Accessories. You may also get a few other Cricut accessories, depending on which Cricut Machine you buy.
MUST HAVE CRICUT TOOLS
After you open your Cricut up and complete the first project, you are probably ready to make more Cricut rojects. Having some key Cricut accessories will make crafting even easier with your Cricut.
It doesn’t matter which Cricut machine you have, you can use the same Cricut Accessories with all the Cricut machines.
The best Cricut starter toolset is the Cricut Essential Tool Set. It comes with all the tools and accessories you’ll need to use with your Cricut. It includes:
- paper trimmer: to cut materials up to 12″ wide
- scoring stylus: use it to add fold lines to paper projects
- spatula: to help lift cut pieces up off the mat
- weeder: to remove tiny extra scraps
- scraper: perfect for scraping material scraps off any of your cutting mats
- tweezers: great for lifting and holding small pieces
- scissors with a protective blade cover
I also suggest purchasing an XL Scraper because it makes it so much easier to Clean Cricut Mats.
OTHER MUST HAVE CRICUT SUPPLIES FOR BEGINNERS
Cricut MAts
I will always recommend purchasing extra Cricut Mats.
Your Cricut Machine will come with a mat, usually a standard grip Mat. But Cricut Makes 4 different types of Cricut Mats. And they all come in two sizes, 12×12 and 12×24.
If you are not sure which mat(s) you will need, you can buy a variety pack that includes Strong Grip Cricut Mat, Light Grip CRicut Map, and a standard grip Cricut Mat.
It’s always good to have extra mats on hand because they can become less sticky the more you use them.
While it’s easy to Clean Cricut Mats., it’s still nice to have backup mats while you wait for them to be cleaned.
It’s also nice to have 12×24 Cricut Mats for your bigger project.
Cricut Pens
Another useful Cricut Accessory is the Cricut Pens. They are not required to have, but they are nice to have.
If you want to make cards or invitations, Cricut Pens will come in handy. If you don’t have the best handwriting, you can use the Cricut to write in a pretty handwriting font.
Cricut pens come in a variety of colors, but I recommend the 30 Pack Cricut Pens.
VINYL AND TRANSFER TAPe
If you are planning on making projects with Vinyl, you’ll want to get some Vinyl and Transfer Tape. You can also get HTV for making t-shirts or adding vinyl to fabric.
TRansfer tape is used to transport your vinyl to the surface you want to adhere the vinyl to.
There are so many different types of vinyl, that you’ll need to figure out what projects you want to make so you can buy the correct material.
CRICUT EASY PRESS
If you are interested in making projects with HTV, you’ll need Cricut Easy Press or Heat Press.
HTV stands for heat transfer vinyl, which is what is used to make t-shirts!
You use the Cricut Easy press (or a heat press) to adhere the HTV to the t-shirt, or fabric of your choice.
