If you love spending time outside then you might be looking for some budget friendly ways to update your outdoor space to give it a fresh look.
Decorating an outdoor space on a budget can get overwhelming.
Depending on the size of your outdoor space, it can get costly buying new items. Or maybe you are trying to stick to a tight budget to save extra money.
We have a giant deck off the back of the house that as soon as the warm weather hits, I love to spend time outdoors soaking up the sun. Since it is such a large space, I’m always looking for budget friendly ways to update the back deck. And I always try to repurpose what we already own.
So if you are like me, you might be looking for some affordable ways to update your outdoor space.
You may want your outdoor space to feel inviting, especially if you like to entertain.
Maybe you want to give your yard extra curb appeal.
Or maybe you want a relaxing space to take in the fresh air.
Whatever the reason may be on why you want update your outdoor space, just make sure you factor in the weather when updating your outdoor space.

BUDGET FRIENDLY WAYS TO UPDATE YOUR OUTDOOR PATIO
If you are on a budget, check out these budget friendly ways to update your outdoor space.
1 – Painting outdoor furnitURE
Painting outdoor furniture is a quick and easy way to update your outdoor patio on a budget.
Let’s face it, Patio furniture can get expensive. So if you already have a patio set that might be old or ugly, Paint it!
Painting patio furniture is a much cheaper way to update your patio.
If your furniture is metal or wood, you can easily add a coat of paint to give your outdoor furniture an uplift. You can paint it a vibrant color or a neutral color.

2 – ADD AN OUTDOOR RUG
Adding a brand new rug will truly make your outdoor space feel like a whole new space. Outdoor rugs give color and texture to your outdoor space as well make it feel like an extension of your home.
Outdoor rugs can be used to hide any imperfections your patio or deck may have.
There are so many different types of rugs to choose from. Get a bright and bold rug with a geometric pattern, or keep it neutral.
Just make sure you get an outdoor rug that will hold up against your weather.
I was able find a 9′ x 12′ outdoor rug at my local Ocean State Job Lot for $33! If you don’t have a Ocean State Job Lot near you, there are some similar ones on Amazon, but not for the same price and size.

3 – OUTDOOR FIRE PIT
Nothing screams summer more than an outdoor cozy fire to share stories and make smores.
Before you look at firepits, you’ll want to see if you can add one to your outdoor space.
If you outdoor space is in your backyard, you can add a wood burning firepit. If your outdoor space is on a deck, you’ll want to go with a gas firepit.
And if you are a DIYer, you can build a firepit in your backyard.

4 – OUTDOOR LIGHTING
There are so many ways you can use lighting to give your outdoor space a fresh new look.
You can add lighting to the ground, table, or suspended over your outdoor space.
Lighting will make your patio space feel warm and inviting and easier to enjoy throughout the evening.
If you have a walkway to your patio, you can also add some solar lights to give the path light.

5 – OUTDOOR FURNITURE
If you don’t have outdoor furniture that you can paint, you can add a seating area.
A seating area will make it easy to entertain outdoors.
Outdoor Patio Furniture can get expensive. So check your local Facebook Marketplace for a second hand set or local yard sales. Or you can wait until the end of the summer season to find patio furniture on clearance.
Of if you are handy, you could attempt to make your own DIY Outdoor Furniture.

6 – REARRANGE YOUR PATIO
An easy and quick way to update your outdoor space is by rearranging your patio.
Last summer we arranged the furniture a few times to try to different layouts.
So swap your furniture around. If you have both a seating area and dining space, flip them. If you only have one, try turning your furniture.
Rearranging your furniture is a quick an easy way to update your outdoor space.
7 – ADD PLANTS AND PLANTERS
Another budget friendly way to give your outdoor space a fresh new look is by adding some plants and planters.
Get some greenery or flowers that compliment your color scheme to make your outdoor space feel like an oasis.
Flower pots and planters come in all different sizes and shapes. You can also paint your own flower pots if you are not able to find the color planters you want.

8 – SWAP OUT THE PILLOWS
If you already have some pillows, grab some new outdoor pillow case covers to change up the colors to give your outdoor space a fresh look. Make sure they are waterproof so they won’t get damaged from the rain.
If you don’t have pillows, at the end of the summer you can usually find some outdoor pillows on clearance. Don’t worry about the actual design of the pillow, you can always cover them with some outdoor pillow cases.
Just make sure the pillows and pillow cases you use are waterproof so they won’t get damaged in the rain.
