The latest Cricut trend is using Citristrip to Etch a Cup!
And I’m going to show you just how easy it is to engrave a tumbler, without an engraver!
That’s right – you can etch cups with Citristrip! Just take a yeti cup (or a similar cup that is powder coated) and use Citristrip to etch a design onto the cup.
For the last couple of weeks, I’ve been seeing people posting how they etched a tumbler with a paint and varnish stripping gel. So I knew I had to give it a try.
And I couldn’t believe how easy it was!
I decided to use old tumblers and yeti’s I had on hand first before trying this etching technique on brand-new tumblers.
And oh was I shocked! It was so easy to etch a cup with just a few simple steps.
I can’t wait to start making personalized tumblers for all my friends for Christmas!

HOW TO ENGRAVE TUMBLERS
If you already have a Cricut and removable vinyl, then you only need a few items to get started on making your own engraved yeti cups.
SUPPLIES TO ETCH A CUP
- Citristrip Gel
- Stencil vinyl (or removable vinyl)
- paint brush
- foil
- Tumblers with a powder coating
- Weeding tools
- painters tape
- Heat Gun
- Cricut
STEPS TO ETCH A TUMBLER WITHOUT AN ENGRAVER
First, you’ll want to design your project in Cricut Design Space. Once it’s designed, don’t forget to size it to the correct size that will fill the space on the powder-coated tumbler
Next, you’ll want to cut your design out with stencil vinyl with your Cricut.
Once your design is cut, you’ll want to weed the design to remove all the extra pieces you don’t need.
Then apply the vinyl design to your tumbler Rub all the edges to ensure it adheres to the cup. You don’t want the Citristrip Gel to leak under the vinyl.
If you have a lot of empty space that you don’t want etched and you want to protect it, you can apply painters tape to the empty spaces to protect it.
Lay the cup on its side so it can’t move. Take the paintbrush to apply a thick layer of Citristrip Gel to cover the stencil. Make sure the layer is thick and covers the entire stencil area.
I recommend leaving the Citristrip Gel on the design for at least 10 minutes. The time will vary depending on the thickness of the Citristrip gel.
Next, cover the Cricut design foil. Then take your Heat Gun on a low and blow it over the design for approx 2 minutes.
The design should then peel right off. If it doesn’t peel off, hit it with the heat gun for another 30 seconds or so. Then you can either peel it off or rinse it under water to remove it.
**TIP: If you don’t have a heat gun, just leave the Citristrip on for approx 90 minutes and rinse with water. You may need to scrub it off with a brillo pad to remove the Citristrip.

Your instructions worked perfectly! Thank you for this page, I did use a blue scotch bright sponge in a bucket of water to remove the remaining powder coating and clean up the edges but I love this craft. Thanksa again.
