When you are scrolling through Pinterest, do you ever see a Pin that says “How I Make [ X ] Amount Blogging Every Month“? Do you ever click on them and read it? I do – I love to read those posts! I find it fascinating that bloggers are making 5 or 6 figures a month from blogging. I never knew you could make money blogging. It’s definitely inspiring as well as intimidating but I don’t let it scare me and neither should you.
I’ve been a blogger now for about 6 months, but I still consider myself as a beginner. Starting a blog has been fun and exciting. It enables you to get creative, connect with others, and make money blogging. Starting a blog was way easier than I thought and now I am able to make money blogging! How awesome is that?
When I first thought of starting a blog, I went to Pinterest for help. Pinterest is my go to for almost everything. While researching how to start a blog, I ended up learning a way to make money from Pinning on Pinterest (no blog required). It sounded easier than starting a blog so I put the blog idea on hold for a whole year while I focused on making money from Pinning on Pinterest (You can learn more about that here). Once I made the plunge and created this blog, I couldn’t believe how easy it was to get started. I was able to create a blog in no time.
If you have yet to start a blog, check out my post: How to start a blog. You can be up and running in no time.
If you want to make money blogging, there are a few things you can do right in the beginning to make that dream a reality. Keep on reading to learn how.
By the time I was ready to monetize this blog, I was able to make over $120.54 in the first month! Actually I made it in 3 weeks! I’m still in awe that I am able to make money blogging. I know I have a ways to go if I ever want to make 5 or 6 figures but I do see the potential. I’ve already made back the money I put into this blog and I have doubled my earnings every month.
Again, I am just a beginner who wants to share with you how a beginner is able to make money blogging. While I value the advice and opinions of very successful established bloggers, sometimes it is nice to hear from other beginners or those just starting out on how they make money blogging.
Before I go any further, I do want to remind you that blogging does require work. You need to put the effort in if you want to see a return of investment. There are ways to automate some tasks, but in the end, you need to put the work in and build a community. Nothing will happen overnight.
Now are you ready to learn how to make money blogging?
1 – HOSTING
First question: do you have a blog? If not, go here to learn How to start a blog.
If you do have one then YAY! Congratulations to the blogging world!
Hopefully you went with self hosting instead of free hosting. Free hosting platforms have many restrictions when it comes to monetizing your blog. So if you want to make money blogging, go with self hosting and purchase a domain.
My hosting is through Siteground. I only went with them because a few blogger friends raved about them. They have been amazing so far and their uptime is 99.99%. They also offer low monthly plans. Another self-hosting company that is comparable to Siteground is Bluehost. Bluehost offers low monthly plans and they also give you a free domain name when you sign up with them.
2 – THEME
You want to build a blog that makes a good impression to your readers. One way to do this is by building a beautiful designed blog. This will encourage your readers to read your blog post, browse your blog, subscribe to your blog, and ultimately return again. The design of your blog will help to make that happen.
Once the blog is created, you can customize it by selecting a theme. You can use a free theme or a paid theme. When I first started, I used a free theme but it limited me so much. I wasn’t able to customize it much and in the end I hated how it looked. Eventually I switched to a paid theme. Switching wasn’t painful at all in case you need to start with a free theme.
There are several places you can purchase themes from but I found myself constantly browsing: Etsy, HungryJPEG, and Creative Market. They vary in prices but you can find an affordable, beautiful theme.
3 – AFFILIATE MARKETING
One of the easiest ways you can make money blogging is through Affiliate Marketing. Affiliate Marketing is when you partner with companies and promote their product. If you sell something, they’ll pay you commission. It all gets tracked through a special URL you are given for the product.
There are a few ways you can use Affiliate Marketing with your social channels. When I first started using Affiliate Marketing, I used it directly with Pinterest. I didn’t have a blog then. Many Affiliate Programs let you put Affiliate links directly on Pinterest. Since I was already familiar and working with good Affiliate Programs, I was easily able to add affiliate links throughout my blog since day one.
Unfortunately I was using many of the same Affiliate Links on my blog that I post on my Pinterest account, so I am not sure how much money I am making through Affiliate Links on my blog. I do receive a payout every month for Affiliate Marketing and I consider Affiliate Marketing the easiest way to make money blogging.
If you are not sure which Affiliate Programs to join, check out my post: Affiliate Programs You Should Join Today. I list out the Affiliate Programs I use and recommend that you use too.
4 – ADS
Another way to make money blogging is by adding advertisements to your blog. I was hesitant at first because I hate going to a website and it is covered in ads. I was able to find an ad company that let me control how many ads were placed on my blog so I could ensure my website does not look spammy. My first month monetizing my blog, I was able to make $120.54 from ads. I couldn’t believe I could make money blogging in my first month of monetizing.
There are a few different ad companies you can use but if you are just starting out, I recommend going with Google Adsense. That is the ad company I use and had great luck with.
5 – SPONSORED POSTS
Another way you can make money blogging by through sponsored posts. This means that you will be paid for promoting another product/brand on your blog. Usually it is done by writing reviews of a store, brand, product, or another website looking for exposure.
6 – DIGITAL PRODUCTS
You can make money blogging by creating and selling digital products such as an Ebook, courses, printables, etc.
While I haven’t tried this yet, I’ve talked to several bloggers who do this and highly recommend it. I do plan on trying this further down the road. So once I do, I’ll report back and let you know how it goes. According to my research, it is a money-maker! So you should definitely look into it too!
7 – Promote
Once your blog is ready to go, it is time to promote your blog. You can promote your blog through all your social channels (Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, etc). My favorite way to promote my blog is through Pinterest. Pinterest drives 90% of the traffic to my blog every month.
Pinterest is a game changer. If you need an audience and traffic, definitely promote on Pinterest. If you need help with growing your Pinterest Account, check out my post: How To Grow Your Pinterest Account. The tips and strategies I outline helped me to reach over 6.5M monthly viewers on Pinterest.
You can also promote your blog on your other social channels and share with friends/family.
A Final Note
It is absolutely possible to make money blogging. As I mentioned earlier, I’ve been blogging for only a few months. I still consider myself a beginner and I have a lot to learn but I am certainly on my way there. My start up costs were low and I’ve already made the money back plus more. I see the potential of where this can go.
So if you are still on the fence about blogging, there is no reason to delay. sign up now.
If you have a blog but haven’t monetized it yet or just starting out, try the items I outline above.
